Consultation on the proposal for Ormiston Maritime Academy to transfer to Delta Academies Trust

Ormiston Academies Trust and Delta Academies Trust have announced early plans for Ormiston Maritime Academy to transfer to Delta, following a period of  impactful  collaboration between the two organisations.

Over recent weeks, the academy has begun to  benefit  from  additional  support and partnership working with Delta. Building on this early work, and following thorough and careful consideration, both trusts have agreed to  pursue  proposals for a permanent move.

The  plans are  intended to ensure the academy has the right support in place to keep moving forward, with a continued focus on  accelerating improvement and delivering the best possible outcomes for students.

In terms of next steps, we have started a period of engagement with staff, parents/carers and wider stakeholders which will run from 9  – 30 June. You can participate  in this  by attending the open parent forum on Monday 15th June, please email us on [email protected] and we will confirm a time for you.

Or, by emailing any questions to:  [email protected] using the reference “Maritime” in the subject header.

FAQs

Delta Academies Trust is a high-performing trust with a stronger local presence, and experience in successfully improving schools alongside delivering exceptional inclusive practice for students. It brings the capacity, expertise, and resources needed to provide the intensive, sustained support required to accelerate improvement

You can find out more about Delta here: http://deltatrust.org.uk

Delta Academies Trust already has tremendous success locally in both primary and secondary academies. John Whitgift Academy went through a period of rapid progress that has now been sustained for 8 years. Students that attend one of Delta’s many Academies have benefited from the abundance of resources, in-school expertise and capacity, that can now be shared with Ormiston Maritime Academy.

Delta and OAT share similar values and ambitions for Maritime. Delta is uniquely placed to offer Maritime the support it needs in the next phase of its improvement journey

The same academy team will remain in place, with the addition of trust-level leadership and resource support from Delta, such as the recent addition of Interim Principal: Mr R Spendlow. Crucially, staff will receive the localised consistent support to continue to enhance and improve our practice in all areas, to the benefit of all our learners.

The curriculum will continue to ensure progression and achievement for all. The curriculum is already under review, and nationally, there are huge changes at GCSE levels that all academies have to consider throughout the country, starting in September 2027.

The academy will continue to uphold its distinctive character and remain rooted in the local community. This proposal is about support and improvement, not about changing what makes the school unique.

Naturally, the “Ormiston” brand would be removed, but more details will follow for any changes that would be made to the academy’s name or identity. Delta will work with staff and pupils to develop a new identity that reflects the new chapter for the school.

Delta respect and understand concerns that parents may have about any anticipated and unexpected expense with regard uniform. Delta would provide uniform to all students in Years 7 –10 with no charge whatsoever to parents/carers. In Year 11 however, students would be expected to see their time out at Ormiston Maritime Academy wearing their existing unform.

Yes. Consultation and information has already gone out to all parents and carers letting them know of the subtle changes needed to the academy day from September 2026.

Term dates will remain in line with Northeast Lincs local authority and published beforehand as normal practice.

No. Delta are keen to work with the existing Governing Body and has already secured the appointment of 5 extra local professionals to join. Delta will continue to follow the well-established and successful Delta governance model, with an Academy Advisory Body (AAB), at school level.

Following this consultation, we will seek approval from the Department forEducation for the transfer to go ahead. If approved and timings run to plan, the transfer would take effect in the Autumn 2026. However, these things can always be subject to delays and change, so we will keep you updated with progress.

The priority must be to secure the very best outcomes for all our learners. Changes to exam boards for those already studying for public exams would not benefit ourlearners. Exam boards will remain the same for all current Key Stage 4 curriculum areas.

Delta will ensure that the exam boards used are right for our children, so that they attain at their very best. Any future developments will be carefully considered and fully planned to ensure the very best for all students.

Yes. We are keen to engage with parents, carers, staff, LAs and the local community and to hear your feedback.
